Penny, and A. \V. Hogg wero present at a mooting of tho "Wellington education Board held yesterday. Tho iinanco statement sot out lliat tho credit halancn on July 23 was J'.156'0 .'is. Sd., as against .£277 ss. 9d. on June 25. Tho receipts in July and in Jimo'(since tho last mooting) amounted to X 11,351 18s. 3d., and the* payments For tho same period amounted to .£13,038 10s. 7d. 'J'hc authorisations (including amounts authorised on June 27) amounted to .£4298 ss. fid; Tho July payments wtrc as follow—Buildings, '.£732 ss. 7d.; general, .£lßsl 18s. lOd.; technical, jcSOO 13s.'; manual, ,£lßl 10s. 5d.; secondary, .£277 13s. id.; teachers' .salaries, J:8690 Is. Bd.: total, ,£12,8 M 2s. 10d. Agricultural Instruction. Tho. following recommendations,of the oxecutivo wero agreed to: —That -Mr- C A. Cummiug's salary be increased to. 4)375, rising to .£4OO as from July 1, 1018; and that he bo required to exorciso adequate supervision over Uio Nature study and agricultural work of tho district on lines to ho approved in tho iirfit instanco by tho board ar.d senior inspector; and that in placo cf Mr. ]''rcoman, second instructor, applications be invited for tho position at a salary ranging from .£250 to J3300; and that, in order to givo instruction in agricultui o in Mai-thorough and other districts, a third instruotor be appointed, to bo paid a salary of ~£2OO. increasing to X 250 per annum. Tho board decided.—"That the hearty thanks of the board bo accorded to Mrs. jWnrtiu and Jfr. Vphiteman for their eft'or of 1J and 1 aero, .respectively for the school at Karapoti." The Kolburn School. Tho board decided that, owing to the pressure of numbers attending tho schools at tho northern end of the city, the Education Department 1)0 urgsd to find tho money necessary to complete tho Ktlbuin school, which would go tar towards meeting tho requirements of the district. On tho subject of ovar-proisuro in schools, it was decided—"That the headmasters of the city schools bo asked to furnish a statement of the number of children for tho present year rlio, being resident in the school district, have been refused admission, the statement to showapproximately tho standard to w.bich each child would belong." Conveyance of Country Children. On this subject tho following resolu-. tions wero passed:— "That strong representations be again made to tho Department with a viow to increased allowances being toado for conveyance of school children, rs in many instances the board is quite Liable to obtain a suitable service for tho allowances at present provided." "Hutt — That the arrangements made for conveyance of children for attendance n't woodwork and cookery classes bo approved." Normal School Grounds. In regard to the use of Normal School grounds, etc., for Cadet parades, the board decided:—"That the complaints' bo forwarded to the officer in command, nnd thai ho he informed that the board regrets it will bo unablo io allow the further uso of tho ground and building unless proper supervision is exorcised."
