PERSHING'S PAYMASTER
In one of those ont-of-the-way United States Army nosts where tho outside world seems all too remote, ward that General Pershing was lo lead the American expedition to France set the post buzzing with' gossip and speculation. "Kow that's someTning- like," said one omcor. "I'd giTe anything to go with Pershing." "Why not write and tell him so?" suggested a voung lieutenant. "Whatfine?" came the reply. "Why, I'm only a paymaster." And so a letter was duly forwarded to General Pershing by the paymaster, who wanted to serve under him in France. Two days later a telegram arrived at HJie post for the paymaster. It tead: "You're lit.—Pershing." It's not all red tape in the Army.
