BADGE FOR WAR SERVICE

The silver war badge for officers and men who have serv.ed in the Australian Forces since August 4, 1914, is in the design of the Imperial cipher, pierced, within a circle, bearing tfia words, "For King and Country. Services Rendered." It will bo worn only with plain clothes, ( on the right breast or on the right lapel of the jacket. Applications for badges, which should be made to the staff officer for returned soldiers in each military district, must be supported by the man's dischargo certificate. The new issue -will not affect the present issue of the returned soldiers' badge. The following persons aro eligible to receive the new badge:— Officers and men of the Australian Imperial Force and Naval and Military Expeditionary Forces, who left the service ns a result of wounds or sickness arising from tho military service, and who are now permanently unfit for 'further active service; members of the Australian Army Nursing Service, and members of Voluntary Aid Detachments, who have quitted the service under similar conditions; civil practitioners regularly appointed to perforin military duties, and othor civilians who have occupied positions normally held by officers and other ranks of the Royal Army Medical Corps,, under a. fixed agreement for a period of ■service, who have been forced to resign through: physical, incapacity caused by military service. If subsequently such officers cr soldiers aro fonnd fit for active service, or aro employed on home service duty, the badge will be returned to the authorities. The badge will not be given to cffioors who have been appointed for the voyage only for the purpose of transporting troops overseas, nor. to any individual who has been discharged through being inefficient, or to those discharged with less than six months' service.
