THE MACARTHY HOME
"AS 3IJLNY STAFF AS I'ATIEN'L'S." At ycslerdny's meeting of iho Hospital Board, Mi'. U. M. Luko regretted tliat so littlo use-was being made of tlio Macart(hy (Belmont) Convalescent Hospital for (uliildrcn. It seemed to him that tUey only had four, five, or six patients, which meant that there was an official for every patient. J-lo would not say it was shocking, but it was certainly surprising to find that a possible error of judgment had been made. The chairman said that the fact that there wero so few children available for tho institution showed that the health of the children Was good. It was surely better to have tho children healthy tliau otherwise. Mr. 0. M. Luko said if that argument wore to be used it could be applied to tho General Hospital. They bad been led to l.elievo that the institution was needed, but it now seemed tlmt there wcro not sufficient children to occupy tho Belmont Hospital. Tho chairman said that they could advertise for patients if thoy liked, but tho .regulations were that no pationt should be admitted unless approved by tho Medical Superintendent. He deprecated that Mr. Luko should harp on tho question of this home, and quoted' uiedical authorities to show what a. salubrious air existed at Belmont for tho purposes of such ii homo. He thought that thore would bo no difficulty in filling it with children wero its scopo of usefulness widened.
