RUSSIANS CAPTURE DOLINA
OVER 36,000 PRISONERS SINCE' JULY BEGAN -VAST HAUL OF MUNITIONS DESPERATE BATTLE IN CHAMPAGNE FRIGHTFUL HAVOC IN THE ENEMY'S RANKS The Russians have captured Dolnia, due south of Lemberg. Since the month began Brusiloffs victorious armies have captured over 36,000 prisoners, and made a vast haul of guns and other war material. The fighting on the Lomnica front grows more intense, and on one sector, ■where tho Russians were holding a village, the arrival of the enemy's reinforcements and heavy losses amongst the Russian officers compelled a slight retirement to the eastern end of the village. A desperate battle is reported from the French front in Champagne, where tho Germans launched a series of desperate attacks in a fruitless effort to recover their lost ground. The enemy's losses, says-the French official report, wcro "murderous." On the British front there has been a slight advance north of Messines. On the coast, the Navy's air squadrons have made another deadly raid on the enemy's stations, railway junctions, dumps, and other important points in their chain of communications, returning from what seems to have been a highly successful and effective enterprise without the loss of a single machine. There are no new developments in the German political crisis. Tho Kaiser has shed a few valedictory tears over his ex-Chancellor, with the usual heroics. A report from Rome says that the Germans admit that four of their largest and latest U-boats were destroyed in the Atlantic by tho warships which wero escorting the first American contingent to Europe.'
