AMERICAN LINER TORPEDOED
CARGO OF TWO MILLIONS SENT TO THE BOTTOM FOUR MEN KILLED New York, July 11. The State Department has announced tlio sinking of the American liner Jvanfan (7913 tons). Four men were killed. The Korean's cargo was valued at two millions—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. THE TORPEDOED ORLEANS GERMAN PRICE ON HER CAPTAIN'S HEAD. Paris, July l.i. Survivors from the United States vessel Orleans, which was torpedoed, state •that when the vessel sank the captain was drawn under water, but later was picked up by a yacht. Meanwhile the submarine circled.round a boatload of survivors and asked the officer in charge ''Where is the captain?" The survivors replied that they believed he went down with the ship. The submarine officer cursed in English, saying- "There's a prico of 24,000 marks on his head. We want him."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. July 12, 5.45 p.m.) Copenhagen, July 11. Two Norwegian sailing vessels, the Asheim and the Oxol, were sunk by submarine hi the Atlantic. Some members of the crews were lost.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. AMERICA BUILDING 300 SUBMARINE CHASERS New York, July 11. The United States correspondent at Washington states that the Navy Department has revealed that the United States is building 300 110-feet submarine chasers, and progress on them is rapid. Some will be ready in the next few months—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SUBMARINE BASE FERRETED OUT Rio de Janeiro, July 11. A destroyer has discovered a submarine base near Santos, in the Brazilian island of.&vn Vicente.—Renter.
