THE ANTI-SHOUTING LAW
IS IT ENFORCEABLE? Replying yesterday to a question by Mr. W. K. Field, member for OtaTci, regarding, the anti-shouting legislation, the Hon. A. L. Hordman, Mnister in Chnrgo of tlie Police, said that he had no renson to suppose that the legislation was a dead letter "It has not been ascertained," said Mr. Herdninn, "that the anti-trenting regulations are not capable of effective enforcement, and there is no reason for believing that they are not being enforced. A number of prosecutions for breaches of the regulations liavo talren place, and in many instances .substantial fines have been inflicted; wliich are reported to liav resulted in a better observance of the law. The police have special instructions to take steps to enforce the regulations."
