hergeaut Waller .1. Williamson, who has been awarded the D.C.Si., is the only son of Mr. and Sirs. 11. Williamson, of Avoudale. He is now 20 vears of age, and was born and educated* at New Flymouth. He went to Auckland about five years ago, and at the time of enlistment in. the Riile Brigade was in the emplov ot Messrs. Tatterslield, Ltd. He took a keen interest in all sports and in Ihe "Hoy Scout movement, being at one time scoutmaster at Whangarei. He left New Zealand as a lance-corporal, and was promoted on the field. He was some time previously mentioned in dispatches for conspicuous gallantry on the field.

Dr. M. U. O'Sullivan died in Melbourne on June 21. He had not been in good health for somo (ime. Ho had a sharp attack of angina pectoris on Sunday, which seemed !o have passed off, and Dr. O'Sullivau was talking to his son when he suddenly died. Dr. O'Sullivau, who was born in County Kerry, Ireland, (It years ago came to Australia in 1&S1. Since 1585' he had practised in Collins Street as a specialist in gynaecology, and was regarded as one of the leading authorities in tho world on this subject. Sergeant If. Walker, of Nelson, who is in hospital in Italy, was returning to Egypt when tho vessel he was travelling by was torpedoed. In jumping over-' board he injured his back, but was saved and taken to an Italian hospital, where he was splendidly treated, 'The hospital was attached To a monastery, and the nuns controlled the wards and U:e nursing, with military doctors and orderlies in attendance.

Mr. .1. A. Martin, who for some years has been on the office staff of Ihe district traffic nmuagpr of railways, Auckland, has been promoted to the head office at Wellington.

News has been received in Melbourne of the death in the 14th General Hospital, Egypt, of Chaplain-Captain .1. Dempsey, who was chairman-elect of the Congregational Union, but was nimble to fill, the position owing to his departure on active' service. .His death was caused by pneumonia, contracted when on u transport on which he' was doing British chaplaincy work was torpedoed in the Mediterranean.

Liuicc-Corporal R. W. Stiles, who has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry at Sfesiues. is a sou of Major R. W. Stiles, of Nelson He left New Zealand with the 12th Nelson Company of the Canterbury Infantry Battalion (llth Reinforcements), and after some time in Egypt went to 'France, where he has been for fifteen months. He was attached to the Machine Gun Section. J.anceCorporal Stiles went through the. Battle of the Somnie unscathed.

Lieutenant-Colonel C. B. B. Mackesy. D.5.0.. has returned to Auckland on furlough. He left New Zealand in command of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, Main Body, and went In Gallipoli. He was in command when his regiment held Walker's Ridge, being attacked by a strong Turkish force. He later returned to Egypt, being in charge of. base' details. After the evacuation he again took command, and led ' his regiment through- the campaign at Sinai, where the Mounteds distinguished themselves so well. Lieutenant-Colonel Mackesy 53 one of the few officers who have been on duiv since Hie mobilisation of the Main Boilr. Two of his ?ons, Major and Lieutenant Mackesy, volunteer?! at the same time as their father. Lieutenant Mackesy being killed at Gallipoli- Colonel Mackesy's home is at AVhangarei.
