ONSLOW BOROUGH
A -taeeting of the Onslow Borough (-uiniuil was held on Saturday evening, /fhe Mayor (Mr. J. M. Bale) presided, and tucro were also present :—Councillors A. E. Kudd, G. F. Hodgson, C. Bowden. E. Q. Tucker, n. B. Topp, A. W. Palmer, and W. Applcton.
I It was decided to appoint Mr. P. Bradshaw ranger for tho borough. This developed a discussion on tho wandering stock nuisance, and it was pointed out that it was necessary for tho ranger to impound stock or deliver to owners on the road, but not to drive the stock to tile owner's place for delivery. A letter was received from Mr. E. N. Sutherland, calling J,he attention of the council to the condition of Imlay Orescent. Councillor Tucker eaid Mr. Sutherland had put the position very .mildly. Tho roadway was in a dangerous condition, and should bo put into repair immediately, otherwise he was sure there would be a serioue accident. Tho (roadway was dangerous w> vehicular traffic, and some tradesmen had refused to allow their vehicles to be driven on Imlay Crescent. The Mayor explained that Imlay Crescent, was neither a piihlic Street or a private strcct-r-it was just a piece of land, and tho council could not. spend money on private land. Tho best course to adopt was to endeavour to get the owner of the land to dedicate it as a public street. Finaily, on the motion of Councillor Tucker, it was decided to call a. special mooting of the council to deal with the question of private streets within the borough. A letter was received from Mr. J. H. Jcrram directing attention to tho fall of earth on the footpath near hie property at Ngaio, which was a source of danger. Councillor Topp stated that thero were other localities in Ngaio where the same trouble existed, and on his motion it was resolved to request the engineer to submit a report on the matter. 'The letter of Mr. 11. T.Woolven, with respect to flooding of Lot 119, Oolway Estate, by surface drainage, -was referred to tho engineer to deal with. Councillors Bowden aud Palmer spofco in strong condemnation of tho city's septic tank at Kaiwarra which was eaid to be a great nuisance to the residents owing to tho offensive smell. Councillor Bowden expressed the opinion that the tank was defectivo and required radical alteration. On the motion of Mr. Palmer it was resolved that a. special committee, consisting of the Kniwarra Ward councillors, be appointed to investigate the matter fully and report. The district health officer reported with, respect/to the nufeanco of carcasses buriotl at Crofton West. Tho officer stated that the.nuisance was a menace to the health of tho children in the neighbourhood. It was pointed out that the offender had been previously warned, and it was, therefore decided to prosecute him forthwith. .
