FIGHTING IN EAST AFRICA
GERMANS HUNTED FROM PILLAR TO POST STRONGLY HELD POSITIONS EVACUATED. (Kcc. July 5, 11.20 p.m.) London, July L An official dispatch from East Africa states:—"The enemy: lias evacuated strongly-held positions southward of the Ngaura Hirer, and is retreating southwards a distance of nine miles. We advanced westward and south-westward of Linds, and engaged a strong enemy detachment. AYe compelled a considerable German force in the Songea area to fall back. The Belgians are co-oper-ating with the British in the extreme north, and are pursuing a small enemy force. Co-operating with the Portuguese, we,drove back the Germans who had penetrated Portuguese East Africa as far as the shores of Lako Nyassa and the Nyassaland border."—AuS.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Eeuter.
