ALLEGED THEFTS FROM HOTELS MISSING MOTOR CYCLE 'Air. li. 0. Hoiil. S.Jl'.. presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. A young man named Ernest Brasting was charged that on June 9 ho did steal one motor nyclc, valued nt £45, tho property of J. O'Brien and Co. Chief-Detective Hoddam prosecuted. Tho evidence of Oonstablo Clorvey, of Tanmarunui, was taken to enable him to- return to his station. Constable, fiarvoy said that in consc(incnco of a telegram received from tho Wellington police ho interviewed accused near Taumartinui, and asked him how ho got to Tanmarunui. Accused said he came by train. Accused was then ■asked it ho had a motor cycle, and ho admitted that ho had one. Later, accused said no camo from Wellington by tnotjsr eyclo a? far as Taihapc, ii'nd that the machine belonged to a man in Wellington named 0 Brion. Ho further stated that O'Brien had lent liirn tho motor cycle, and that ho had told" O'Brien he was going to rido it to Taumarunui. ' Witness than arrested' accused, and read over the charge to him. ilc- made no reply. Later accused made a statement which was taken down in writing and signed. At this stage, on the application of OhiefDetective Boddam, tho further hearing of the case was adjourned to Tncsday noit. Bail was allowed in £55, ond ono surety of £05. CHARGE m BREAKING AND ENTERING. Michael.Joseph. M'Canu.vas charged that on. Juno 20 ho did break and enter tho Masonio Hotel and steal therefrom a quantity of underclothing, valued at £1 IBs., tho .property of Nahum Opit, also ono overcoat, brush and comb, and four £1 Australian notes, value £8 10s., tho property of Georgo D. Eussoll; on Juno 22, uommitted theft of a portmanteau and contents, valuo fo 13s. 6d., tho property of Alfred Benjamin Lucas; also on tho same date theft of one ccntlemante overcoat, valuo £2, tho property of eomo person or persons unknown. With respect to tho thofla from tho Masonio Hotel, tho evidence, of two witnesses was taken. ' :

His portmanteau was in tho room, and it contained a quantity 0 ( underclothing. Whon ho left for the '"■eatro tho portmanteau was locked, but tho door of his. room was open. Georse D. Russell, property-master to the J. 0. Williamson Company, deposed that ho stayed at the Masonic Hotel on June 20. His overcoat, -was hanging up in the room. It contained his brush and comb, some papers, and four £1 Australian notes. Do did not lock the room when ho went to tho theatre. On his return about 5.30 p.m. tho overcoat and contents had disappeared. The overcoat and papers had disappeared. Tho overcoat and papers produced wore his. Accused had no authority to remove tho garment from his room. Tho further hearing of the cases was adjourned to "Wednesday, July 4. OASES EKMANDED. George Cooke, who was arrested on Monday night, appeared to answer five charges of breaking and enterting and theft, and on tho application of Ohief-Detectivo Boddam was remanded to Wednesday, July 4. Catherine M'Oasltol and Elizabeth Grown, for whom Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared, were charged that on June 25, tltcy did steal goods to the value of £26 17s. 6d., tho property of James Smith, Ltd. On tho application of Ohief-Detectivo Boddam a Tcmand to Wednesday, .Tuly 4, was granted. Bail wns allowed in £15, and one surety of £15 in respect of each of the accused. OTHER CASES. . Henry Matthews, convicted of using obscene language in Lambton Quay, -was fined £3, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, and for wilfully damaging a constablo's helmet, valued at lis. 6d., was ordered to refund the amount. Albert Gooday, associated with the above was convicted of obstructing ,1 constable while in tho execution of his duty, and was fined £3, in the altcrnativo to serve fourteen days in gaol. For insobriety, William Thomas Waters was fined 205., in default seven days' imprisonment. Four first /offenders wore convicted and discharged.

A youth named Edward Kruger was ofMrecd that on Juno o, at Blenheim, he did break and enter the shop ,of James Bcnning and Co., and steal six bottles of beer and three bottles of stout, valued at 7s. On the application of tho police he -was remanded to aDpear at Blenheim. CIVIIi ACTIONS. Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M., heard the civil cases in tho Magistrate's' Court yesterday. JUDGMENT SUMMONS.

Hcid, S.M., had before him during the greater part, of the afternoon the caso brought by Eva Gertrudo Sullivan against her husband, Cornelius Sullivan, a claim for separation on tho. ground of persistent cruelty. After hearing tho evidence of several witnesses on both sides the case was adjourned for a week to enable husband and wifo to endeavour to como to some amicable arrangement.
