SOMES ISLAND WATER SUPPLY
Sir,—l notice in a paragraph re cos 6 of feeding or keeping Germans on SomeS Island that Sir James Allen stated; that all the water used had to be conveyed to the island,, and that the cosS was heavy. Surely there is on the buildings enough roof surface. to catch; a large supply of water jt tanks -were used; enough, I should , imagine, for all purposes, aud it would be very simple fccj store water in large concrete tanks. Thq above would obviously be a much cheapelf process than conveying all the water—sol obvious that one can hardly credit thai! Sir James Allen really made ,tho stato-i ment attributed to him. ' On the othes hand, it is a well-known faot that the ways pursued by Government officials are frequently the most expensive ano\ costly to th e Wt,y.-Im g etc^ E/
