Five below 1600 tons were sunk. Fivo vessels were unsuccessfully attacked.— Aiib.-N.K. Cable Assn.-Beiiier. AMERICAN FREIGHTER FIGHTS A PIRATE SUBMARINE BELIEVED TO BE SUNK. (Eeo. June 23, 5.55 p.m.) Baltimore, Juno 22. The American freight steamer Norlina has arrived here. She reports that she
fired nineteen ehots in a battle with a U-boat pirate. The captain stated that the snbmersible's . superstructure was wrecked, and he believes the U-boat was sunk. The lattor's torpedo struck the Norlina a glancing blow, but did no damage.—A-US.-N.Z. Cable Aesn. NORWEGIAN STEAMER TORPEDOED, v Copenhagen, June 22. The Norwegian steamer Cederic- has been torpedoed. Ten men were rescued, and thirteen are missing.
