The tlio favourite were up with the leaders. Down tho back Jem joined them, and Yorilla gave , way. At tho half-milo Want, Jem, and Iceberg had the others beaten, and in an interesting finish Want outstayed Iceberg and won by a couple of lengths. St. Bees finished fourth, and just beat Jem on the post. The favourite, who looked well, may be better for tho race. Atuatoro fell heavily at tho last l'euce, but beyond a shaking J. O'Connell was unhurt.

! Czaiomis, tho favourite in the Pctano Hack Steeples, fell when looking like a winner half a mile from home. Bodenham and Grey Guard made the early running from Banza Mist, who fell early but continued on in the race till he got his foot in his bridle and fell again. Sabrenui was prominent with Bodenham, Kow, and Grey Guard with six furlongs to go, but then Cxaronus moved up, only to fall after catching the leaders. Bodenham, Papatere, and Kew were together round the bottom bend, but the firstnamed had too much pace in the run home, and won easily. Merry Jack came from a long way back and beat Kew for second place. Then came Papatore, Sabre, nui, Silver Monarch, and Dood. Collector fell in the last round.

Tho big handicap resulted in a comfortable win for llauinanuwhiri, who was burdened with a 101b. penalty for her win at Gisborue. At the start the Auckland horse Sir Kalph was first out, but he was eteadied, and Sea Lord led down tho back from Kaumauuwhiri. Entering tho straight this pair were well out, and tho King's Guest niare, taking charge, won nicely from Sir Ralph. Undecided was Tunning on at tho finish, in third place, and then came King Chiara, Hythread, and Sea Lord, all of whom had been prominent on tho journey. Tho big steeplechase provided a sensational iinish, which ended in the triumph of the top-weight. Over the first part of tho journey Diavolo led Jackmnn, Sandy Paul, and St. Elnin, with Nita whipping the field. Passing the stand Soporific moved up, and with Diavolo led over tho next round, followed by Sandy Paul, St. Blmn, and Marton, while Nita was still tailed off. With a mile to go St. Elnin, who had been jumping badly, fell back, but the--leaders maintained their positions, and Braeburn and Record moved Tip. With half a mile to go Soporific tossed out, and Record took charge, from Diavolo,' who' was shortly afterwards headed by Marton, with Braeburn liandy. Kecord was well clear at tho last fence whon ho fell. This left Marton in charge, but he was tiring, aud Deerey, riding the top-weight vigorously, caught him about -twenty lengths off tho post, and a great strugglo ensued, both horses being under the whip. The topweight answered the better and won by a short neck. Diavolo was three lengths away, and then tamo l<<igot ;md Nita. Tarn was missing when tho field lined up for tho Ludies'i Necklace.
