CIRCULATING LIBRARY
FOR TIIENTHAM CAMP.
Excellent progress is boing mado by Miss Kothcnberg in the work of; establishing :i circulating library ior tho soldiers at Treritham Camp. Pinco the troop train services to Ilio city were reduced under tho war-tune running of trains the need for providing additional means of recreation for tho men during tho evenings has become acute. Tho new library is expected to go a long way in this direction, as the. books mil boissiied just, as books'.iro in a civilian circulating library, ami tho men will be able to read thoni in their huts or tents. Hitherto all libraries in tho camp have put a. restriction on tho removal of books from tho institute or club in which the libraries are situated. When the circulating library was first proposed, the intention was to hoiiso it in tho Y.nr.CA.. Institute. That body, however, already lias'a library of sovcval thousands of books, and it has now been decided to inako room in tho Church of England Institute for the library. Already many books have been donated by Wellington citizens! Yesterday an Army Servico Corps wagon took !)9£ volumes from the Soldiers* Club to Tronthatn, and further consignments will go out from time, to time. The. kind of books that are wanted are the readable book, novels, Ira.vel books, and others of an entertaining nature. Old books are not desired; tho bindings must bn good and tho volumes clean. In many households there aro ■ numbers of such books on the shelves, and it would be a thoughtful and patriotic action for the owners to parcel them up and send them to the Soldiers' Club in Sydney Street.
