Tho annual report of the St. John Ambulance Association (Wellington Centro) lor tlio year ending Altirch 31 stated: "Tlio coutmiuition...or mo {rrcat war and the great tJoiume push by tlio British Army opened up lor our centre- a great opportunity to send iiiotor ambulances iroiu tho towns and districts of our centro for our boys in Prance, Vbo socretary, by public meetings und committees of St. John Ambulance and Ked Cross workers, ami appeals to patriotic societies, mot with such ready respom-e that in a little over four .months ten ambulances, costing .£6500, were ordered. Of this amount ,£!9SS 10s. was received by this centre and remitted to London. Somo of theso ambuhincos were ready for. servico at a time- when tho pressure- was so great that those in use in Great Britain for Now Zealand soldiers had to l>o diverted to IJYancc, and our ambulance first helped to fill tb» gap. As tho result of a report of a. special committee of inquiry, our city ambulance van service was relinquished during the year, tho nnniuil loss having become too great. Tlio vehicles wero presented to tho Hospital and Charilablo Aid Board. One of our Ashford litters has been lent to the !Rotiirncd Soldiers' Convalescent Sanatorium at f!otorui\. Owing to no call beingmade upon St. John Ambulance Brigades and Women's Divisions in Is r ew Zealand to servo at homo or abroad, attomlanco at classes flagged, last year's figures being as follow:—.Number attended classes, T!W; number examined. 032; nurnber passed, 527. Several of tho large technical schools in our centro have put: first aid and homo nursing on the syllabus, and have largo classes. The Women's National I?eservn in Wellington and other places have curried out classes under our regulations. Tour committee- is pleased to report that all medallions and labels ordered during tho last two years,. irith tho necessary dates of examinations, have been received: also that examination records asked for by headquarters have been prepared and forwarded up to Decomber, 1916. "During the year the following suims of money were remitted from war funds: Comforts for hospital ship, returning to Now Zealand, JifiO: transport of Wounded Fund, per Lord Kanfurly, .£155. In response to a circular lotter issued Ijy iho secretary, appealing for subscriptions, a. record amount of .EB7 15s. had been received up to March 31. Owing to illhealth, Sir. C. P. I\>wles tendered his resignation as chairman and treasurer in November, 191 G. Tho resignation was received with much, regret, and a suitablo resolution of appreciation of his long services was recorded. Mr. B. Balcombo Brown was elected chairman and treasurer in place of Mr. Powles. Tho committee desires to thank all class secretaries, examination supervisors, i.nd demonstrators in the city, suburbs, and towns throughout our centre., also all those who in any way assisted the association during (he year."
