MUNITIONS FACTORY EXPLOSION
FIFTY PEOPLE KILLED London, Judo 14. Fifty people were killed by the explosion at Ashton-under-Lyne.—Aus.-N.Z. CaUe Assn. INJUREdHtoER 150 two mills destroyed bt pike. (Rec. Juno 15, 10.55 p.m.) London, June 15. By the explosion at Aahton-under-Lyne 150 were injured. A considerable proportion of the' casualties were school children, who were returning home, laying fragments of toilers, bricks, and gasometer frames were responsible for a largo proportion of the casualties. Some of the debris was hurled a mile. One street is described aa resembling a shambles. Flames from the munition works ignited a cotton mill, which was gutted. <V corn mill at Dnkinfield was ignited and completely' destroyed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assu. PEIVATELY-OWNED WORKS. London, Juno 14. In the House of Commons, Mr. Bonar Law stated that the munitions factory in which the explosion occurred was a privately-owned works. Much dairnge was done to neighbouring mills, workshops, and dwellings.—Router.
