(Continued from page t.) Concert at Trentham. .Advantage was takon of the presence in Wellington of that talented Dunedin singer, Mies. Helen Gard'ner to secure ■her services, and a concert party arranged by Mrs. E. H. Querec, consisting of Misses Helen Gard'uer, Janie Petrie, Messrs. Hamilton Hodges and Rupert Meates, journeyed to Trentham on Thursday evening and gave a most enjoyable concert to a ''full '■■ house" in the Y.M.C.A. Hall. Miss Gard'ner delighted the audience wit|i 'her ainging and clever child impersonations. Mr. Hodges was heard to advantage ill several songs, aud the audience, loth to part with him, in- i sisted on his! singing again that optomistic song, "There's a Big Lot of Sunshine Coming Soon." Miss Petrie'e elocutionary items were greatly appreciated, and Mr. Meates's deep bass voice found much favour with the audience. Mrs. Queree played tho accompaniments in her usual artistic manner. After singing the Kational Anthem, cheers were given for the performers, who were entertained at supper by Captain Harland and other officers.
Sailors' Friend Society, The Mayoress's concert given on Thursday at tho Sailorß , Friend Society was a Very big success, tho programme of music being very much enjoyed. Tho hostess did all possible for tho comfort of her guests, among whom were Chief Officer Barnsdalo and the lads of the Aniokura. Tho encores wero liberally responded to. A vote of thanks to the Mayoress and Madame Mueller, the Misses Anketell, M. Cooley, Carrington, White, Mueller, and Messrs. Hayward and Wood was passed. Miss Anketell was at the piano. The wedding took placo very quietly at Wellington recently of Miss Amy Muriel ("Dot") Smith, eldest daughter of Mr. Ernest Brooke Smith, of Wellington, to Corporal William Redmond (of the Main Body of the Expeditionary Force), also of Wellington. The bride wore a pretty tailored costume with hat to match and set of beautiful ermine furs, the present of her aunt. Tho bridegroom's present to the bride was a diamond ring.. Later in the day the bride and bridegroom left by motor for the north. "Thinker" brand writing tablets and school exercise books are the best for all schools.
