The majority of the local bodies in (h< Wairarapa have declined to endorse tryprotest of tho Afasterton Borough. Coua oil against tho proposal of the Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to increase t'ho fees charged to patients to 9s, per day. Tho rivers in tho Masterton district wero in a flooded condition on Tuesday, but did not overflow their banks. Tho Masterton County Council has adopted tho recommendation of a special committeo regarding the erection of a concroto bridge over tho Waingawa ! River, and has instructed its clerk to givfl effect to the recoinmondation. Tho heavy rain of Tuesday caused a wash-out on tho fc ; tronvar Road, and traffic from that district has been temporarily suspended. The proposal of tho Masterton County Council to bring about an amalgamation of the different counties in the Wairarapa has not met with the general approval of the neighbouring ' councils, though several have agreed- to the holding of a conference, Tho Masterton Borough Council has decided to give a ten per cent, war bonus to the wholo of its staff. Notice has been given by a member of the Masterton Borough Council to move at the next meeting, "That Ilia rates 'of men on active service ho remitted whilo they are away from New Zealand."
