WIDOWED MOTHERS

[ THE SEPARATION ALLOWANCES. Tho regulation governing the payment of separation allowauco to the widowed mothers of soldiers has been amended in Iho direction promised recently by the Minister of Defence. The rule making tho payment of this ullowanco conditional upon the soldier allotting to the mother his deferred pay of 3s. a day is to bo proportionately relaxed in particular cases where a soldier establishes that ho is unablo to allot tho full amount of hid deferred pay. Each case will be dealt with on its' merits, and the allowance will be granted provided the mother's inconio from other sources does not exceed 7s. a week. Children's allowance is to bo paid up to the nge of twenty-one years to soldiers' children who are suffering from menial or physical infirmity necessitating special treatment or training in an institution where facilities for such treatment or training are provided.
