DEFENCE MINISTER'S COXCRATU. LATIONS. The Minister of Defence (Sir .Tames •Allen) dispatched yesterday the following telegram to Liout.-Genei-al Godley:— "I havo read with pride of tho taking of Messine3 by New Zoalanders. We never doubted they would win through with honour, however difficult the task allotted to them. We deeply regret tht> lost, and send our sympathy to sick ami wounded, and earnestly hope, the casualties are not heavy. Let General KusselL ami all his command know New Zealand is gratified at the opportunity given to her sons, and promt of their success, and ask him to tell the Tunnollers I realise how their work lias materially assisted in bringing about tho splendid success."
