ONSLOW BOROUGH

The monthly meeting of the Onslow Borough Council was Held on Saturday evening the Mayor (Air. J. M. Dale; presiding. There were also present: Coiin* cillors-E. A. Budd, W. Appleton, B. Hobbs, U. I'. Hodgson, 0. Bowden, E. G. Tucker, A. \V, Palmer, and H. B. Topp.

The combined schools of ICniwarra, Ngaio, and JOiandallah, having arranged with the AVellington City Council for tho use of Library books under certain conditious, an application was made to tlio council for a grant of -CIO to enable the schools to 'take advantage of the offer. The application was warmly supported by several councillors, and it was decided to make the grant as requested. -The borough having intimated to the City Council that it did not intend to proteed with tho agreement re drainage, the City Council wrote asking for payment for tho work done in connection with certain drainage work at Kaiwarra. The Mayor explained that when the City Council decided to put in a 12in. pipe the borough agreed to pay the difference between a 12in. pipe and 15in. pipe, provided the latter was put in. The City Council wrote asking for payment of this difference, 'totalling .£926 3s. sd. After some discussion, it was decided to defer consideration of the matter.

The burying of certain dead animals in Ngaio close to a stream gave rise to some discussion, and ultimately it wa3 decided 'to approach tlie Health Department to take urgent action in the matter, which, according to some councillors, was a real menace A> the health of residents of the locality.

It was decided to approach the Post and Telegraph Department with the <&- ject of having a slot telephone installed in Ngaio. On .the motion of Councillor Bowden, it was resolved that owing to tho dissatisfaction that exists in connection with the Kaiwarra water service and the unsatisfactory financial position connected therewith, the council investigate tho matter immediately, and that the services of an expert be secured to advise on the subject.
