WEEVILY AUSTRALIAN WHEAT

> : 9 ■ COMPLAINTS FKOM DUNEDIN. Interviewed, with regard to a telegram ■ from Dunedin, to the effect that Australian wheat landed there waa weevily and sprouted, Mr. Virtue, manager of the Northern Holler Milling Co., said lie anticipated no trouble as regards quality when the time arrived for Auckland to draw upon it. The shipment sent to Dunedin was the initial one, and invariably trouble is experienced in hasty shipments, as no doubt the Dunedin millers were short, and clamouring for wheat, which did not allow our Government getting an expert grader sent across; but he understood they had employed Mr. . Ferrier, an expert Government grader, of Lyttelton, to thoroughly Bamplo the Dunedin consignment, and then proceed .; to Australia to attend to the grading ' ■ and sampling, and if it is as severe as in ' the past there need be no trouble, provided good milling wheat has been purchased. If Sydney cannot supply, there is a superabundance at Adelaide and Brisbane, and the latter port is not under the Wheat Board's control. Mr. Virtue is amused at the Dunedin millers 7iiissing the 'bus for wheat, and dumping flour on this market, and then coolly asking the Government to protect their interests in price, to give them absolute control in Dunedin. Hβ says his comrany raitrht ask the same concession to ■ keep out all southern millers, which would be quite as equitable as tlie Dnn- ; «din millers' Tequest. .
