A Press Association, telegram from Sydney records the death of Sir Matthew Harris, formerly Mayor of Sydney. Sir Matthew Harris was Mayor of Sydney from 1898 to 1900, and wrs some ' time M.L.A. for the Denison. He was knighted in 1899.

Mr. 3. Craigie, Jf.P. for Tiniani, is at present visiting "Wellington. The Bev. J. R. Archer, oj the Vivian Street Baptist Church, announced at yesterday's services that he had been appointed military chaplain at TauhereJiikau Camp, where he will represent the Nonconformist Churches. He expects to enter camp at an early date.

Mr. C..A. Wilkinson, M:P. for Eltham, has received cable advice that his son, Lieut. Harold Wilkinson, has been awarded the Military Cross. Lieut. Wilkinson was studying for the medical profession in England at the outbreak of the war, and while there he enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery, eventually obtaining a commission. He is not yet twenty years of age.

Chaplain-Captain P. J. Minogue has arrived at Featherston Camp, vice Chap-lain-Cttptaiu T. Guinane, who has departed from camp.

Advice has been received that Lieut. R. D. Boyle, who was recently wounded in France, is now in Brocien'hurst Hospital, and is recovering from his wounds.

A Press Association cablegram from London 6tates that Mr. Bonar LaVs second son, who was reported wonnded and missing on April 21, has died of his wounds in Palestine.

Trooper Clutha Mackenzie arrived from the south yesterday morning. He is staying with Mrs. Seddon at Golder's Hill.

In tho King's Birthday honours list there occurred the name of Colonel Btandish among other receipients of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.). This is Lieut.-Colonel Ivou Standish. son of Mrs. Standish, of NewPlymouth. Colonel Standish, who will be 34 years of ago in December next, left as a major of artillery with the main New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Ho is an old New Plymouth High School boy, and for a timo was assisting his brother sheep-farming at Tarata. After serving in tho South African War ho returned to New Zealand and joined the Permanent Artillery, and his progress lias been rapid. Some time ago he was awarded tho D.S.O.
