PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRA

The Wellington Professional Orchestra gavo the third concert of it.s -1517 season at His Majesty's Theatre last evening under tho baton of Mr. Herbert Bloy. Credit, id duo tho orchestra for the? admirable selection of the programme, which contained several well-known and popular pieces. TJiero was a. largo audience, and tho high quality of. tho concert drew well-merited applause. Tho first item was Weber's brilliant "Obcron" overture. Tho instrumentalists were, j-ich in tone, and the beauty of tho work was upheld, indicating that timo had been spent in acquiring perfection. Two pieces in a lighter Toin followed. These- were "La Poupee Vajsnnte," by Poldint, and Jarnefelt's "Preludin.m." There is a delightful rhythm in both of theso pieces, which were played with, a graceful finish. A fantasia, on "La Vio Bohemienne," by I« Thiero, was a splendid number, and its qualities were brought out creditably. Another item in a loss cerioua mood was three numbers from Cowen'e "Language of Flowers." This mite is welcomed enthusiastically for its charm and fancy, and it cave the orchestra scope for delicacy of treatment. The idyll. "Davra," by Matt, was another finished item. _ Puccini' was represented by a fantasia on "Madam Butterfly." The bewitching beauty of this selection was not marred, tho piece being one of the best of the evening. The next concert of the orchestra will be given oji July 8.
