A social was held in the Renall Street Hall 011 Jlonday evening to celebrate the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. John, liule, of Russell Street, Ponsonby, Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Bale, ivho came from Home in their childhood, were married at the Alexandra Street Church on Juno i, 18G7, and have resided in the Auckland district ever since. A large family was born to them, and three sons and one daughter are still living. There are fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Mr. Rule fought in the Maori war, and holds the New Zealand war medal. Mrs. Rule is mtl known in temperance circles, and liaa been a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union from its foundation here. She also has been connected with the Women's Political League, of which slto is now president, from tho time it was originally organised to agitate for woman suffrage. Numerous congratulatory messages were .-ereived from all parts of the Dominion by Mr. mid Mrs. Rule. A very pleasant gathering took place at Ballauce, when Miss I'ellingham, who is leaving the district, was presented by tho residents with iv set of ebony brushes and mirror. After progressive euchre had been played, Mr. liremner (chairman of the School Committee) made the presentation. He stated that during her stay in Ballanco Miss Fcllinghara had won the high esteem of all, and it was with feelings of regret that they had met to bid her good-bye. They all wished her the best of health and prosperity in tlio future. Miss Fellingham briefly replied, and all joined in singing "For"she's n jolly good fellow." Mr. and Mrs. J. Matthew then entertained all present at supper. Cheers for tho departing guest and tho host and hostess brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
