LETTER FKOM THE MAYOR, The Minister of Defence has reived the following letter irom Mr. H. Hands, "Mayor of C&po Towili . , "I desire to thank yon very sincerely for vour letter of February 16, in whicb. vou 'are good enough to egress appreci-"(-ion of what has been done to show, some little hospitality to the Aew Zealand troops calling here. "On behalf of the various committee,, concerned, viz., the Bed Cross Society, the Gifts and Comforts Organisation Committee, and the Visiting Troops Entertainment Committee, and, I may add, the whole of the citizens of Capo Towii, I can only assure you that it a pleasure to welcome our Zealai d brothers, to endeavour to i e lovo tedium of the long voyage, and to make them as comfortable as possible _w: b thev are with us. There will be no lelaiation of our efforts in this direction, If we iVard it a privilege to be able m some small way to s^ r and appreciation of all that c . . land lias done to help the Empire in this struggle against the forces of lawless you I believe this war bas doM much more ,to cement the bonds or union between Great Britain an<L the Dominions aad to strengthen the tics of ■ 5 among, the peoples winch comrose the Empire. Opportunities such as wfe have had of getting to know mora of our New Zealand citizens will have the effect of still further, consolidating the bonds between us.
