HUTT MAGISTRATE'S COURT

MONTHLY SITTING. Tho monthly sitvwjr of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court was held yesterday. Mr. VV. G. Hiddell, S.H,, was on tha Bench, and with him wore Messrs. J. CJudby and J. Wilkins. JlVs. For committing a breach of his prohibition order James M'Grath was fined 405.. in default t-even days' imprisonment. Thero were two similar charges against William Handley, and ho was convicted and fined ids., in the alternative seven days' imprisonment on each charge. Michael Murray, also charged with a breach o£ his prohibition order, was fined 405., or to serve seven days in gaol. For procuring liquor for prohibited persons John Hayes was fined 40s„ in the alternative seven days' imprisonment, and Albert Neal was fined GOs., with the option of serving 21 days in gaol. THE SPEED LIMIT. Quite a numi>£r of motorists were penalised for exceeding .the speed limit, S. Jackson, against whom there were two oharges, was fined 205., and costs, on each charge; James Aldred was fined 30s. and costs. Clifford Peel, for a first offence, was fined 10s. and. costs; James Frockter was fined 20s. and costs. David 'Patrick Eea was fined 10s. and costs, William Josoph Allen was penalised to the amount of 30s. and -costs. Henry' Gastein. for riding a motorcycle at an excessive speed and failing to give his name and address when requested to do so, was fined 10s. and costs. On a second- chargo of riding round a street corner at an excessive speed a further fine of 10s. and costs was imposed. ' OTHER CASES. For allowing stock to wander, A. Hill was ordered to pay court costs, and J. Quilkan and David Andrews were each fined ss. and ordered to pay costs. For failing to enrol a child at school, Gustaf Clement was fined ss. and costs, nnd James Turner, for failing to.send a child in his custody to school, was also fined ss. and costs.
