Hounding tho bend th& leader wont; away, and 6trung out the field. In the straight he held his own and won easily from Madam Ristori. Two loDgths away camo Humorist, followed by Alatty and Maymorn. Merry Jack and Arlington were the public fancies for tho Steeples. Though' tho country 13 anything but difficult, it proved too much for most of the runners, probably owing to the fast pace set. At the start Ranza ran off, and Otter followed euit at tho next, fence. This left Precious Metal in charge, and though ho chanced a. couple of fences ho was not again headed, and won easily from Papatore and Ngarna. Torchy wae making a good showing when ho towed eut two fences from home. Arlington rap off at tho double. The bracketed pair Gang Awa' end Master Moutoa was the most, asked for in tho Cup, and tho black horse, who stripped a picture, toe nicely from Prince Delaware, who hung badly on the turn, which allowed tho favourite to get up on the fence. At the start the favourite jumped out smartly, hut was Booh .headed by Nystad and Prince Delaware,- and this pair led out of the straight and down the back. At the half-mile Nyatad was done with, mid the favourite ran up followed by Antwerp. Ohiwia, and Hylatus. Bounding the home bond tho favourite got up on Hie fence and won nicely from Prince Delaware. Rose Pink was third, and then camo Crawford, Heeltap, Teka, and Antwerp, in that order.' A rank outsider in Borsil prevailed in tho Otaki Hack Handicap, while a hot favourite in Altercation failed badly. At the start Kio and Dingle made play from tho favourite. Rio wao not caught as I hey raced" into the straight, but then Uorsil shot out, and in a good finish won ly a neck from Bio, whilo Dingle just brat Pall Mall. Tho rider of the winner hails from Otaki, and got a great reception from the crowd. The consistent Lsidy General again turned up in the Rahui Handicap, in which she narrowly defeated Veto and Lady Black. Hupana was the first out, and led a hunched field into the straight, where Lady Black collared her. In the run home the weight told on the black mare,-and after a good finish Lady General won by a bare length from Veto, while the top weight was a neck away, foHnw-pd by Sea Lord and Interlude, At the start of the Hack Welter Handicap, Black Hill led Snnny Climes and Deeside.
