A successful concert was given ou Tuesday night by Mr". A. Boyd. The encores were many and insistent. Soin« rare competitions caused great inn. A temperance- address was given toy tho 'Rev. W. H. A. Vickcry, Lower Hutt. • and as usual pledges followed. Sir. Mooro pleaded for discarded books for use- at soa. Tho following rendered valuable assistance:—Mrs. J. Lewis, tho Misses Makin, Harmcr, and Messrs. Hoole, sen., Thompson. Boyd, Hoole, iun„ and Cole. Miss Makin was at the piano. A "porsonal explanation" was mado at last night's meeting of tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society. A member of tho society said ho had received a letter from tho council warning him that ho must not shoot trout. He wished to state that lie had never taken a fish in an unsporting fashion, and ho did not intend to do so. The chargo had been mado in error, and it had involved him in a good deal of unpleasantness.
