PRISONERS IN GERMANY
HE ASSURING STATEMENT ABOUT THEIR PARCELS. Mr. Agnew, managing director of the Central IMsoners of "War Committee, stated recently that since December ] last the Central Committee nnd the Allied associations have sent to all prisoners—civil and military—three parcels of foodstuffs weighing lOlb., together with 131b. of bread, every fortnight. The contents of the parcels, in 'the opinion of scientific experts, are sufficient to keep a man in good health -without taking into calculation any rations that lie may receive from the German Government. Moreover, we send to the larger camps considerable supplies in bulk to provide for men wliose parcels may not have reached them, and for prisoners en route. We are satisfied that the majority of the parcels reach the oien. Last week alone we received 7300 acknowledgment cards; whilst up to the present they total 25,000. AVe are supplying 33,000 military and 3GOO civilian prisoners, and we are sure that CO per cent, of the parcels reach their destination, whilst we believe that, despite an inevitable amount of pilfering, a very small proportion of the unacknowledged balance goes astray."
