. Section, play in A and B groups of the War l'luid billiard-diner tournament commenced last night at Alcock's rooms. In A group, forteoiis (rec. 10) beat Billman (rec. 70), by a wide margin. Tho winner plnyed an exceedingly careful and deliberate game, scoring consistently throughout. 11. Algar (rec. 40) beat Laws (rec. dO), after a most interesting and closely contested game, up to 2(10 only a few points separating the playors. At this point, however, Algar got a good lead, and by careful play and using good judgment rattled up a nico break of over dO, which pavo him a win.
In B group, W. K. Kell (owes 20) beat AY. Jackson (rec. 85). by a comfortable margin. The balls certainly ran very well for the winner, and unusually badly for tho loser. In the same- section 0. Sutherland (rec 75) beat V. D'tniock (roc. 110). There was littlo to chooso between those players, and up to tho finish they kept well together. Tho best breaks were: Sutherland, 4-7. 25; Algar, 47, U, 22; Kell, 35, 33; and Porteous, 33, 25. Four moro sames are to be played tonight.
