A farewell meeting was held inMakara Hall on Wednesday evening to make ii presentation to Private Arthur Seivers, who is now in camp. There was a large attendance of settlers. Mr. .T. Monaghan occupied the chair. The health of the guest was proposed by Mr. J. E. Fitzgerald. The Rev. G. Y. Woodward proposed tho health of the parents of the soldier. Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., presented Private Seivers, on behalf of the Makara people, with a wristlet watch, a pocket wallet, and a money belt.

News of the death, in action of Bandsman Sidney James Donaldson, has been received l>y his mother (relict of Mr. "Alex" Donaldson), late of Kilmorne Avenue, and now residing at Lyall Bay. Bandsman Donaldson left Now Zealand in October, 1915, with tho band of tho Ist Battalion of the Earl of Liverpool's Own,' and saw service in Egypt against the Senueei on Christmas Day of 1915. He eventually left for France, where he saw a great deal of fighting. Hβ wrs •well known in local band circles, and prior to leaving New Zealand was a member of the Tramways Band. His family hae a fine record. Of ftro eons three are on active service, one has been discharged from camp medically unfit after fourteen months' service, and the remaining one has enlisted and been passed as medically unfit. The only two brothers-in-law are also serving. ,
