THE POTATO SHORTAGE IN ENGLAND
An interesting sidelight on the present dearth of potatoes in England is afforded by the latest statistics of imports and exports issued by the Netherlands Government. According to these, it appears that whilst , in 1913 the export of potatoes from Holland to Germany amounted to 154,501 ton. the quantity for the three years ending December, 101 G. was no fewer than 658,002 tons; on tho other hand, the export of potatoes from Holland to England in 1913 amounted to 132,111 tons, but in tho three years ending December, 191G, only !)85i:! tons were sent in all. The statistics relating to the exports of potato flour are equally interesting. AVhilst in 101.1 Holland sent to Germany 50,832 tons, the quantity for the three years ending December, 1916, was no fewer than 190,148 tons; on the other hand, the exports of potato flour from Holland to England in 1913 amounted to 31,737 tons, liut in the three years cncling December, IMG, only 72,079 wore sent in all.
