THE SHIPPING SHORTAGE
. . WHY NOT TRY AMERICA? Sir,—The Auckland Farmers' Union seem much perturbed over the shortage of shipping; in fact, a number of people are quite panicky over the matter, inferentially stating that it willbe impossible to move our produce next season. Now, at the end of the season the freezing companies have space for nearly 2,000,000 carcasses, with several month's still to lower the present stocks before tne next season commences. To prevent a possible future congestion, as the United States has joined the Allies, would it not bo better to remove the embargo which has been placed on it, and let American boats ship our butter, cheese, and meat? Hoping that the matter will be taken up while • there is plenty of time.—l am, etc., SUBSOKIBER.
