meeting of THE COUNCIL.

The first meeting of the newly-elected. City Council was held last night. There' were present: The Mayor (Jlr. J. P. Luke), Councillors G. Frost, J. Godbeiv W. H. Bennett, A. It. Atkinson, A. Veiteh, L. M'Kenzie, M. F. Luckie, ,T. 0. Shorland.:C..B. Norwood, W. J. Thompson, J. Castle, li. A. Wright, W. T. Hildrcth. J. E. Fitzgerald, and W. H. I'. Barber.

The Mayor congratulated the new councillors on behalf of the councillors and the citizens. It was decided that provision be made in the estimates for the present financial year for the construction of a culvert at Moxhani Avcmi.e, Kilbirnie. The estimated expenditure is JiSOO. The City Solicitor and the Tramways General Manager were empowered to carry out the necessary negotiations for the renewal of the agreement for the lighting of Onslow Borough. j The Northland Municipal Electors Association are to bo informed, in reply to their request for the erection of enamel namo plates in the Northland district, that painted galvanised iron name plates will be erected in the district nntil such time as it is possible to provide the enamel plates. J. he City Engineer will erect enamel T»&tes ' in Men. outlyins district in turn, after the Newtown district is completed.
