NAVAL ATTACK ON ZEEBRUGGE
A HEAVY BOMBARDMENT
A SUCCESSFUL ENTERPRISE
The High Commissioner reports:— London, May 13, 7.10 p.m. The Admiralty announces that a very, heavy bombardment of an important area at Zeebrugge was successfully accomplished on Saturday, with the valuable co-operation of the air service.
FURTHER DETAILS. London, May 13. The Admiralty reports: A further portion of our Dover forces heavily bombarded Zeebrugge. The Naval Air Service co-operated. Nine enemy aeroplanes were brought down, and two of ours are missing. The Berlin version of the bombardment of Zeebrugge is that monitors fired at a great distance, and the shore batteries forced them to withdraw. Slight material damage was done, and there were no victims.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Renter. Amsterdam, Hay 13.. British bombs blew up two submarine sheds at Zeebrugge. Sixty-three German Bailors and soldiers were killed, and a hundred were wounded.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
HARRYING THE WASPS
(Bee. May 14, 6.10 p.m.) London, May 13. The "Daily Telegraph's" correspondent at Rotterdam states that apart from the damage to the German ships and defences, the increasingly frequent British aerial' and nnval bombardments are hampering the enemy's use of its bases at Ostend and Zeebrugge. Large flotillas of destroyers have several times scattered out to sea, but they do not venture beyond the mine-fields, fearing the British warships.
