A BIGAMY CASE
Charles Henry- Roxboroiigh had pleaded guilty at Masterton to a charge of bigamy. Mr. O'Lcary said that, although the prisoner had been in trouble beforo, ho had recently been in camp for some time, and his behaviour there had boon' so good as to cam him promotion. He was apparently trying to live down his past and bo of nso to his country when ho came in touch with the girl with whom ho went through, tie. form of mam'ago. He represented himself to bo a single man. She apparently became Tory fond of him, and on several occasions expressed a desire to liavo him marry, hor. Ho had not the strength of character to. tell her he was not free, and as a result of her entreaties ho went, through a form of marriage. The case was not ono in which an innocent single girl was "taken down," for the girl lived with tho prisoner for sonic time before going through the form of marriage with him.
His Honour sentenced the prisoner to two ' years' reformative detention, to be served at Invercargill.
