HONEY CROP PROSPECTS

The Director of tho Hortioulturo Division nf tho Department of Agriculture has received from the Apiary Instructors tho following report concerning the honey crop prospects:—Auckland.—Prices remain firm. There is \\o\v n. considerable- quantity in store awaiting shipment. Weather .conditions indicate an early -winter.

Wellington.—The whole honey crop for the 1916-17 season has. now , been gathered. Tho crop has been a. fair average one of good quality, for which there is a strong demand at good prices to the producer. Christchurch.—The local market is very steady, prices for the best quality od. to ojd. No section honey is offering. Market prices for beeswax runs from Is. Id. to Is. 'Id., according to quality. Honey is now coining forward For export. Dimediu.—Tne market is brisk fov ail liues. Consignments are ooming forward steadily and command ready wile. There is a strong demand for bulk Urns for export. Prices' are firm. Uulk honoy od. for white, light, and medium amber. A few small consignments of pat honey have arrived in excellent condition. Beeswax is scarce, and ruliDg rates are to Is. 4d. per lb.

During the course of a year (says nn A Dckland paper) Northern Wairoa farmers use considerable quantities of ashes for fertilising their lands. The following figures show the assessed value per ton of the various kinds:— Uimn, £2 19s. 6d.; white pino. £3 6s. 4<L; rata, £13 10s. 6d.; kauri slabs, ss. 6d.'; also kauri sawdust, 17s. Bd.
