$ • RESERVE DIVISIONS STEADILY ■DISAPPEARING SHATTERING BLOWS BY THE ALLIES AMERICA'S WAH CONTINGENT' MOBILISATION ORDERED BETTER OUTLOOK IN RUSSIA \ • Shattering blows are teiug deliyerod by the British and French upon the desperate masses of the German counter-attacking troops, who are being tlirown in front of the Allies' artillery in futile attemps to retrieve lost positions. Tho effect of theso blows, together with the devastating fury of our offensive artillery attacks, is producing a perceptible diminution, of Von Hindenburg's resources in men. His reserve divisions are literally melting away. The Australians are reported to-day to have added fresh glory to thefr achievements at ißullecourt, and -wrested fresh, ground from the Germans. 'Here- are signs of an awakening on the other great war . fronts: activity on the Russian front in Volhynia ; a brilliantly successful attack on the Macedonian front in tho Balkans; and a great ~ stir on the Italian front, from where.no news has come for weeks. The political outlook in Rxissia is much improved, and the activities of tho extremists and mischief-maKers are being swamped by the growing influence of the great silent mass of the Russian people, who are solidly behind the Government. Orders for tho mobilisation of American troops for active service in Europe havo been issued. The Pope is stated to have issued a peace based, it is said on confidential information of proposals wbii'i are pending from Austria. ; '
