SAD DROWNING ACOIOENT. By Telegraph—Press Assocdalifcn. Timaru, May 6At the adjourned inquest concerning the death of tho girl Agnes Maloney, aged 11 years, who was drowned in the Opihi River, near Pleasant Point, on Anzac Day, the evidence showed that she and a companion of the eanw ago, frightened by seeing two boys with a gun, attempted to cross tho river. Both wished down into the water. One was drowned, and tho other was helped out by a man who happened to see her struggling. ' ■ The hoys said that they saw tho girls wading, but thought they were paddling. They took little notice of them, and went on. When the man first saw tho girls they wore on their feet, and he supposed they were paddling. • The Coroner, Sfr. Wyvern Wilson, concluded that the girls had become frightened and excited, and had slipped and fallen, but he did not'.think they had any' cause to he frightened of the hoys, who had no intention of frightening them.
