The boys of the City of London Scouts ("the Lord Mayor's Own") have, among themselves, saved up and put into.the war loan £173. The youngest boy purchased a £5 voucher with the contents of his money box/ The death has taken place of MrAVilliam H. Harvey, for 40 years headmaster of* All Saints' Schools, Child's Hill, Hendon. Ho taught three generations, and it is estimated that more than 3000 pupils passed through his hands. At the annual general meeting of the" Royal Astronomical Society the president, Dr. R,. A. Sampson, Astronomer Royal for Scotland, announced that the council had awarded the gold modal of the society to Professor >V. S. Adams, of the Mount- Wilson Observatory, California, in recognition of his successful research work and papers on solar and stellar spectroscopy. Dr. Sampson gave an address, m which he described the work of Professor Adams. Major P. A. MacMahon, Warden of the Standards, Board of Trade, was elected president of the society for tn« year.
