OBJECTIONABLE POSTERS
MINISTERS ASK MUNICIPALITIES : TO TAKE NOTICE.;
The' exhibition of 'objectionable posters on hoardings and in the vestibules of theatres is again engaging the attention of the Minister of Internal Affairs. On September 29 last he addressed to all Mayors a circular letter stating that he would be- glad of tno co-operation of their councils, and informing them of their powers to deal with such matters. Mr. Russell has now forwarded to councils another■letter on the same- subject, in wmen no states:— "I have now to inform you that correspondence is being received regarding, the continuance ..of the exhibition or objectionable posters, and I should therefore be glad to know wnat actioa if any your council has taken or proposes to take in fho matter of prohibiting such exhibitions. I may add that if the municipal authorities aro bod prepared to exercise their powrcs in this matter, the Government; may consider it necessary to find some other, ■means of coping with what is an undoubted evil, which is calculated to uridermino the morals of the nivenite population of the Dominion.'
