FEELING ON THE COAST DETERMINED THE MINES WM.L BE: WORKED. 'By Telegraph.—Press Association. Creymouth, May 2. A send-off to the' Twenty-ninth EoinTorcemonts this afternoon at the Town Hall was largely- attended. Territorials undergoing ( training at Omoto 'Camp were present. The speakers . ivere the Mayor (Mr. Lynch), Colonel Chaffey, and Chaplain-Captain Carter. : Mr. Lynch, in his speech, referring to what the people left behind could do, said: "We can see to it and make •certain' that our Navy is provided with •coal—.the very best coal. Wo have coal in the country, and we are not -going to sea the mines tied up as today. There are men in the mines who are thoroughly loyal. Only a few • discontented people are causing all the trouble. There has. been a glorious viotory over these people at the elections, and the people of this district, are determined the: mines will le worked. . • The statement was greeted with loud Applause. This was the new Mayor's first official /act after the installation .to-day. THE PTJPONGA THOUBLE. No . news reached Wellington yesterday as to the outcome of the trouble .at the I'unonga mine, and the presumption is that the men have remained at. work. Their demand was that ■a certain man who had not for some time been in the company's employ, ;<should be given work. It \is ni'ltr!stood that tho answer of the enmpany to tho demand was that no new hands wero being taken oa at prose it.
