A Wellington Wedding. The wedding took place on Tuosdav. at the residence of the bride's pares ts of Miss My*a Cectorbolm, fourth tor of Mr H. S Cederholm, 175 Ow,-,i btreot, to Mr. Alec. Napier, of Alfmlton. Tho ceremony was performed by tbo Rev. J. M'Caw (Hutt). The brido woi6 white ninon, with overdress of crepo do chine and a voil fastened with orange blossoms. Sh„ carried a shower bouquet of white flowers and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaids wero Miss Sylvia Cederholm (chief) and Miss Jossio Napier, and both wore frocks of blue ninon, with overdress of crepe de oliine. Thoir bouquots v. ere of pink (lowers. Mr. Norman Napier was tho best man. The brido's present to tho bride was a gold l wristlet watch, and to the bridesmaids wero given opal brooches. Mr. and Mrs. Napier left by motor for !ho north. "Surprise Bag Day." Yesterday afternoon a successful "at homo" was held in the Maranui Hall in aid of tho Red Cross Surprise Bag Day Fund. Tho hostess was Mrs. Shepherdson) and there was a very satisfactory attendance of guests, principally belonging; to Lyall Bay, each guest bringing with her somo gift with which to. nil-the bags. Small tables arranged- wth chrysanthemums wero placed about the room for afternoon tea, and an enjoyable progrnmmo of songs, instrumental music, recitations, and fancy dancing was presented. "Surprise Bag Day" takes placo on June 1. Womsn's National Reserve. Last week the AVanganui Branch of the Women's National Reserve held a successful, function for tho mothors of soldiers and sailors. There was a large attendance, ono feature of tho afternoon being a lantern slide display of view.s of Egypt, given, by tho secrotary of the Y.M.C.A. Tho afternoon was greatly enjoyed by all present, and it has been arranged to hold tlieso gatherings every month. This section lias also started first aid lectures,/ Dr. Hatherloy being the lecturer. Much enthusiasm lias boon displayed with regard to this part of tho work. Tho marriage has taken plnco in India of Miss Winnie Campbell, only daughter of the la.to Mr. J. R. Campbell, of Southbridge, to Mr. Wlielan, Sindpur, India.

Mr. and Mrs. Bulpitt, of Masterton, celebrated their golden wedding on Tuesday.

Tho New Zealand 1 Natives' Association will havo charge of and stock the Wellington Bed Cross Shop on Friday next. There will bo a good supply of provisions, as this association has had tho idea in hand for some weeks, and much help is oxpectcd from its many members.- It is hoped that tho buyers will como in numbers as usual, aid so help tho fund for our sick and wounded soldiers in England. So far £1400 has been sent from tho proceeds of tho shop. All holp is, voluntary. Miss Cooper and Miss Moss will liavo their ÜBiial sale of flowers and dainty needlework, and tho Misses sv.-ents will be at this stall. There will bo a large display of autumn flowers, and the chrysanthemums will be particularly fine, coming as they d'o from many country friends.

Tho marriago took placo at Knox Church, Masterton, on Tuesday, of Miss Margaret Johnston to Private John Smith, of the Twenty-sixth lloinforceinents, formerly of Blairlogie. The Rov. G. T. Brown performed tho ceremony.

In connection with the Ladies' Auxiliary of tho Navv League, Mrs. Hopo Lewis recently offered a prize for an ossay to bo competed for by pupils of private schools. Tho subject chosen was "What the Navy has done sroco August, 1914." Several schools competed, and tlio prize-winner was. Esther Fisher, of Fitzherbort Terrace School.

Yesterday afternoon Miss Una Carter gave her weekly demonstration of cooking by gas at tho Wellington Gas Company's rooms in Courtenay Place before a largo and keenly interested gathering of ladies. The menu on this occasion consisted principally of sweets, and comprised the_ following: Barley sucar, pineapple ice, butter toftee, short pastry, onion and potato pie, tomato soup, lemon tart.

Children's Red Cross Fete. Tho Gladstono School children held a iU'd Cross garden party oil the lawn of tho head teacher's residence on Friday afternoon last, under very favourable weather conditions. A large number of parents and friends attended, :nid tho function was declared open by Mr. J. Strang, of "Glcnside," in , tho -unavoidable absence of "Sir Waltor Buchanan. All the fancy goods, sweets, etc., made by tho scholars were soou sold, and a doll, which bad been tastefully dressed as a brido by Mrs. Dixon, realised £5 10s. Musical items were given by the scholars, Mr. and Mrs. Dixoii, and Miss Sexton. An attractive item was a tableau, "Tho lied, White, and Blue," by throo young girls, accompanied by tho singing of the older scholars. The Highland sehottischo, danced by twelve scholars in nnrses' dresses and lthalti suits, made a pleasing picture, and was repeated by request, boforo tho singing of the-Na-tional Anthem. Tho total amount realised during tho . afternoon by the children's efforts was £32 10s.

Tho New Zealand Natives' Ladies' Association held a meeting at the association's hall on Tuesday evening, Mrs. M'Vicar being in tho chair. Various arrangements in conncction with their day at tho Wellington lied Cross Shop on Friday wero discussed, and 1 tho guild will bo very glad to receive contributions of cakes, jams, vegetables, etc., at the shop on that day. Gratitudo was expressed at the meeting for various donations wbich have been already received.

At tho meeting of tho Board of Governors of Canterbury College on Monday, the chairman, Mr. J. C. Adams, in moving that tho nomination by tho Professorial Board of Miss D. C. Hardcastlc, .M.A., for tho R-oyal Holloway College scholarship bo approved, stated that in 1913 tho Holloway College agreed to make a grant of £50 towards a scholarship to any student of Canterbury College rocommonded by tho Professorial Board. Tho Canterbury College Board of Governors decided to supplement the scholarship by a grant of £100 per. annuiii, bosides travolling expenses to England. Miss Bruce was tho first nominee iin 1914, but owing to tho outbreak of War she was unablo to go to England. This year tho board had granted tho scholarship to Miss Harden stle on the nomination of tho Professorial Board, supported by tho recommondations of the professors of English and French. Miss Hardoastle was senior in English and French, and last year had acted as assistant librarian. Tho nomination was approved.
