PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL ♦ ■At the meeting of the Fetone Borough Council last evening, the New Zealanct Society of Engineers offered to assist at'any time in the matter of engineering and it was resolved to thank the society for their offer. Messrs. W. Webster and A. Gougli made a claim for damages sustained by their gig colliding with a nightcart. It was decided that the council was not liable. The Rugby Union was granted the use of the Recreation Ground on the same terms as last year. Tho District Engineer of the Kailway Department wrote advising tho council of .the Department's intention to instal penny-in-the-slot locks at the conveniences at the Petono Railway Station. The council intends to protest to tho Minister. It was decided again to . approach the Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to retail firewood to relieve the acute position in consequence of the coal shortage.
