Hardy, OHARIU. ] At a meeting of householders of Ohariu, the chairman reporteci upou the work of tho outgoing committee) mentioning among others tho general improvement of tho sohool grounds and tho establishing of. two ewimmingpondsj which have, proved of direct benefit not only to the children but to residents generally. A new classroom on -up-to-date principles had been erected. , A hearty voto of thanks was accorded the retiring chairman, Mr. S. Bryant, who, after twonty-four years of service on the committee, desired to be relieved from further service. His retirement was accepted with regret. His efforts on behalf of the school and district, particularly in tho direction of securing tlie erection of tho new schoolroom, were happily* commented upon by householders present, and a motion giving expression to the approciation of his services was entered upon tho records of the school. Tho new committee elected is:—Messrs. W. L. Beech (chairman and secretary), T. H. Biissott, L. C. Bryant (treasurer), H. Duaford, F. Nossiter.

: * KAEOEI. . Mr. W. H. NimmOj chairman of the outgoing committee, presided. Messrs. A'iuimo, J. Eaiiie, junr., E. B. Ash, L. B. M'Lachlan, and W. Craig were reelected members of tho committee, and Mr. "W. Skegß was also elected. There are threo vacancies yet- to be filled. Mr. Nimmo and Mr. llaine wero re-elected chairman and secretary respectively. Tho householders passed a motion urging the board to provide nioro school accommodation. Tho report of* tho committoo stated that there was now no male assistant, Mr. Parkinson liavins gone into cainp. His position was being temporarily filled by Miss Richmond. The total number on tho roll was 278 (inoluding 82 infants), the average attendant being 256. As the result of increased attendance, the school -had been raised a grade. During tho year Mr. M. P. Spiers, a member of tho committee, loft for the front.

WADESTOWN. At Wadoetown the chairman, Mr. M. J. Wifien, read tho annual report' and balance-sheet, tho latter showing a credit balance of £80 Is. 9d., which includes a sum of £7 odd collected by the scholars for an Honours Board, which has yet- to bo dealt with. The report of the head master (Mr. C. R. Joplin) stated that the total number of scholars on the roll was 203j and at tho annual examination sixteen pupils obtained proficiency certificates. About fifty old scholars had gone to the front, and at least three—Reginald Mitchell, Leonard Larkin, and Gus Norling—had lost their lives. A special vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman for his untiring efforts over a number of years in_ connection with the new school, "which is now an accom-. plished fact. The following committee was elected:—Messrs. E. J. Wiffen (chairman), \V. M. Ellis (secretary), Hugh Owen, G. P.- Player, Mrs. K. Moore (all re-elected), Mr. .T. E. Bass, Mr. A. Parian© (new members). / MURITAI. There was a : laree attendance of at Muritai. Thirteen nominations were received for the committee, and the following were elected:' —Messrs. 0. Russell, E. W. P. Pearce,

T. W. Pilcher, P. Atkinson, TV. IT. Newson, H. M. Evans, H. L. Wright. Votes of 'thanks were passed to Mr. J. I , Kelly, retiring chairman, to the retiring committee, and to the head teacher (Mr.. H. Sanson) and his assistants. After the meeting the committeo met, when Mr. C. Russell was elected chairman and Mr. P. Atkinson secretary.

HUTT DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. There was a small attendance of householders at the annual meeting of the Hutfc District High School. Mr. E. P. Eishworfch presided. The report showed that the number of pupils on the roll .was 531,. and the average attendance 477, an increase for the first quarter of 41, whieh entitled the school to an additional district master. The report also showed that the high standard of work lad been • maintained throughout the year. A complaint was made that wpod-worlc and cookery were not taught in tho school, pupile having to go to Petone.- The medical inspection of pupils was in progress, and ivas showiiy; good results. Complimentary references were 'made to Mr. T. JR-. Flemine, chief inspector of schools, for the excellent services he Itar] rendered to education. Tho former committee was re-elected as follows:— Messrs. E. P. H-ishworth (chairman); J.

W. Jl'Dougall. H. A. West, J. Wray, J. Doraii. H. B. Kyle, W. J. Alexander, G. W. Moldruin, and W. J. Smith (secretary). NOR?.!ANDALB. At Normandalc the following committee- was elected:—Messrs. Barnes (chairman), Arnold, Akhurst, Knight, and Mussen (secretary). PETONE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL. A largely-attended meeting of hous&presided over by Mr. D. M'Kenzie (chairman of the outgoing committee) \vas held in the Petone District High. School. The annual report and balance-sheet, were adopted, the latter showing; a credit balance of '£34 17s. 3d. The following were appointed the committee for tho ensuing year:—Messrs. D. M'Kenzie, H. R. "Kirk, J. J. Abrahall, D. M'Callum, J. Mathews,.O. Silbery, J. F. Bowles, AV. B. Forsytb, and F. Beard. At a subsequent meeting, Messrs. D. M'Kenzie and 0. Silbery were appointed chairman and secretary respectively.
