INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF OVERSEA TROOPS
— » — DUKE OF CONNAUGHT SELECTED.' It was announced recently, that H.E.H. the Duko of Connaught had been selected for the post of Inspector-General of oversea troops. In a leading articlo which appeared in the London "Times" on January 24 it was urged that the whole question of the promotion of Dominion officers should be investigated at onco in view of the far-reaching effects of any grievance or misunderstanding between the different parts of the Empire. It was suggested that there was an ideal investigator at hand, if his services could be secured, in the late Governor-General of Canada. The article continued:— "The Duke of Connaught is nn ex-, perienced and popular professional boI-' dier, who also thoroughly understands the Dominion point of view. He lias rendered great and unobtrusive service already in connection with the training and dispatch of the Canadian forces, who know him well, and trust him implicitly. We believe that ho could render no greater service at this moment than in some such post as Inspector-General of the oversea troops, both in training in this country and in the field."
