FRENCH OFFENSIVE
THREE VILLAGES SECURED PRISONERS & GUNS CAPTURED AUSTRIA'S PEACE POLICY CAUSES CONSTERNATION IN GERMANY REVOLT I BRAZIL TURKEY'S PARLOUS CONDITION The French offensive is being maintained with! vigour, and the list of achievements includes tho capture of three villages, a fortified trench system, 500 prisoners, and two guns. The British merely claim to have made slight progress. The total number of guns captured by the British since the morning of Easter Monday is now recorded as 228. The internal situation in both Germany and Aus- . tria is bad, Grave disorders are reported throughout Germany, ' arid one paper frankly admits that the Germans cannot conquer. The German newspapers are said to have expressed consternation at the policy of Austria, but what that policy is is not disolosed. Austria is probably shaping her course for a separate peace- The Turkish Grand Vizier is reported to have reached Berlin to unfold a tale of woe., Turkey is unable to carry on tho war, and asks for the return of Turkish troops in Galicia and Rumania, and for the assistance of Austria annd Bulgarian troops. From Petrograd comes a report that the Germans are concentrating naval and military forces with the object of threatening Russia's right flank, and also to menace Pbtrograd. The news from the United States has mainly to do with the Military Service Bill, the President being determined to have conscription, as it is the only means by which an army can he immediately raised. A monster recruiting rally has \ been held in New York, and tho American enthusiasm for war appears to be gaining momentum. It is reported that three States in Brazil have revolted, and that tho Germans are leading the revolu- . ' tionaries.
