The Director of the Horticulture Divilion of the Department of ."Agriculture has received from the , ' Apiary Instruc-' ,-■ tors the following reports .concerning the honey crop prospects s'-r • Wellington.—The provinces of Well- , ! ,intgon, Hawke's Bay; : and Taranaki have gathored drops only slightly below ,the average in quantity, but the aver- ' age in quality. Present prices are likely to be maintained. The popularity of •honey is increasing by leaps and bounds, and it is surprising that the general public are only recently beginning to appreciate this food. Dunedrn.—The season has closed much earlier, and slight frosts aro ■ affecting the late flowers. Taken ajton" er, the season in Otago and Southhas exceeded the-expectations <f most bee-keepers, and without exception , good, crops have been secured. In the memory of the bee-keepers the season closing is- one of the best on record. The,quality of.the honey is excellent, . as is usifal when an uninterrupted tlow -sets in from the clover flowers. South of Auckland the returns are geu- : efally good. Indications are for an early winter. Prices are in advance ? of last year; in some cases merchants -'• are offering 5Jd. ;to 6d.. per lb., anrt \ finding time and paying freight. '
. , Practically the whole wool clip of the 'Auckland provincial ' district is (Bays the "Herald") now in store in the oity. The valuation under the Government requisition has been at a standstill during Easter, but will shortly be resumed, and it is expected that in about ".a. fortnight all oddments will have been freclassed, made up in shipping parcels, • and passed through the valuers' hands. J The valuation of sheepskins is making :good progress, but the"" shortage of accommodation is still hampering the carriage of sufficient skins from the south to keep the local fellmongery establishments fully, employed. Several consignments that were to have been ■ shipped from Wellington' have at the last moment been shut out in favour of other cargo. On Friday advice was received that a shipment of 9000 skins will be sent-by, tho next steamer, in which case the situation will be considerably relieved. . The valuation of j .hides is proceeding satisfactorily. ,
